EYFS vs Montessori
The EYFS or the early years foundation stage is a framework set out by the UK government and pattern of education as a guideline and framework for early years settings children under the age of 5 to follow for month by month expectations of what you would expect a child to be capable and achieving by certain age milestones it’s broken up into categories I am a main focus is the PSED the personal social and emotional development of the child physical development there is communication and language expressive arts and design literacy numeracy maths and there is a lot of overlap with this framework that Montessori also has broken up into the slight differences with the titles of the categories but essentially they’re talking about the same sorts of things if you’ve got a child in an early years setting is quite easy to find all the details of the trauma education is EYFS framework online and I’ll link it here on the blog it’s heavy going you’re not gonna wanna sit and read it yourself in the evening lights bedtime reading no thank you however it’s very informative and if you use it in chunks and look up the relevant month that your child is in awe look at the relevant developmental bracket that you’re interested in it’ll give you a good idea of what to expect Montessori approach is broken down into these areas because it looks at the child ballistically and that doesn’t mean just it’s a child academic abilities which has physical abilities it means we’re looking at the whole of the child all of the areas emotional physical social ability to retain knowledge and grow and learn with that knowledge so a lot of the activities you will find in Montessori have overlap and not just focusing on one area of development there will be over that there might be a primary area of learning or a primary focus with an activity but almost certainly there will be some categories that are being focused on.
